NEW! Cleanse Coaching

As you may know I am a Weight Coach and Psychotherapist. My specialty is helping women end their struggle with food and weight. I used to live in a torturous land of overeating and neglecting my health. I spent hours obsessing about how to escape this hell! A few life changes later and by using weight loss coaching tools and a coach I was able to lose weight, drop the mental anguish and adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and the rest is history.

The problem is that in the last year or so, I started to gain weight again. Slowly but surely, it was coming on. Yes, the Weight Loss Coaches’ clothes were getting tight! Not only that, I was exhausted, burnt out and felt like I was in a fog most afternoons. Irritability became my mood of the day, and I felt like I was living like a total fraud. I would drink coffee to wake up and then have red wine in the evenings to unwind. I continued to eat well and exercise although it didn’t seem to make a difference.

My business continued to grow, I would coach women and empower them, many of them working through life long battles with weight and emotional eating. They were feeling amazing, I,on the other hand, not so much. I had good days but for the most part just felt off, not like my usually bubbly self. My biggest fear was that someone would discover that underneath the smile and poised photos on Facebook that I was exhausted, bloated and uncertain.

Your Body: What’s Love got to do with it?

My sister made a comment last week that blew me away: “I used to live from the neck up.” Her words captured perfectly how I lived for decades. I knew every inch of my face and hair, but I was shut off from the rest of me. I overate or ignored my hunger, I slept too long or not enough. I drank too much, sun-burned my skin and stuffed myself into clothes that didn’t feel good. I barely took care of my body, so how could I know it or love it? If my body was my lover, I would have been dumped years ago.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day – a day for lovers – I invite you to fall in love with your body again. Here are 3 ways get started.

What would you do?

What you do if you were already there?

This question has come to me many times over the last few days, from coaches, from clients from myself and I wonder, “If I had everything I desired today…. What would I do?”

I would slow down, I would read more to my kids, I would breathe, I would write, I would live in the moment and stop worrying about the future.

What would you do if you had all of your desires and dreams today?

Love in a bowl

My father passed away suddenly last month. I flew across the
country to be there with my family. After a few intense and draining
days, we had the funeral, the wake and were worn out from all the
events.I watched my mother, the day after the funeral wrap her
cold, tired hands around a warm bowl of stew; which had been lovingly
prepared by one of her friends. She relaxed, sighed and say “this is
love in a bowl.” Love in a bowl.

I could see the love and gratitude fill my mother up in that moment. I
witnessed that food in that moment felt of love, it comforted her and
gave her strength. Upon reflection, and after some ribbing by my
sister-in-law who later joked to me, “Erin, back to the books!” I
realized that food was one of the many forms of love we experienced
over the last week of mourning.
